LBSAR Attends Rescue on the Rock Regional Training Event

Lions Bay Search and Rescue spent the weekend in Nanaimo attending the Rescue on the Rock regional training event.

The event brought Search and Rescue teams from across British Columbia together to train across multiple specialties, including ground search and rescue, tracking, swiftwater rescue, rope rescue, first aid, search management, and K9 teams. Over three days, teams worked through realistic scenarios, cross-trained with one another, and built the relationships and interoperability that become critical during real mutual aid responses.

Sure enough, shortly after the weekend concluded and teams began heading home, that training was immediately put into practice.

A real rope rescue unfolded in Nanoose Bay, where a young woman had to be rescued from cliffs above a river. Three mutual aid SAR teams came together alongside the local fire department to carry out the rescue—immediately demonstrating the value of regional training, shared systems, and teams knowing how to work together before a real emergency occurs.
