LBSAR Resonds to The Lions Callout
UPDATE: The subjects are safely off the mountain and have been returned to their families. The team faced difficult conditions with whiteout, rain, and technical terrain.
Lions Bay Search and Rescue responded to a technical mountain rescue on the Lions for two stranded trail runners.
The two young males departed from Cypress Mountain attempting to complete the Howe Sound Crest Trail in a single day. Current conditions in the alpine remain full winter conditions, with metres of snow still present throughout the route.
Anyone entering this terrain should be equipped and experienced for winter travel, including carrying proper hiking boots, crampons, and ice axes. Conditions on the Howe Sound Crest Trail remain hazardous and are not suitable for unprepared travel.
Due to a very low cloud ceiling, helicopter access was not possible. LBSAR members are making their approach on foot through technical mountain terrain. The rescue operation is expected to continue through the night.
