LBSAR Responds to Tunnel Bluffs Callout
Lions Bay Search and Rescue was tasked with assisting a subject on the Tunnel Bluffs Trail. Initially, the callout was for a dislocated knee, but upon reaching the patient, it was downgraded to a patellar dislocation.
Due to the subject's location and limited mobility, we requested support from North Shore Rescue for a helicopter hoist extraction.
The subject was safely transported and transferred into the care of BC Emergency Health Services.
The remaining five members of the party were assisted off the trail by ground teams and met partway to ensure a safe return.
The group was well prepared with headlamps which they used to indicate their location to the night hoisting team.
This was a great example of coordinated response across teams and the importance of being properly equipped when heading into the backcountry.
A note to the public that Tunnel Bluffs is often used as an emergency helicopter landing area. If you see an inbound machine, please retreat to the woods and secure all equipment, including tents and fires. We thank everyone camping up there this evening for your cooperation.
