Since last year, BC Parks, Lions Bay Search and Rescue, the Village of Lions Bay, and AdventureSmart have been working together to improve trail signage along the Howe Sound Crest Trail (HSCT). These projects take significant time, planning, funding, and volunteer effort. Signs must be designed, manufactured, carried into the backcountry by hand, and carefully installed in challenging terrain.
Just two weeks ago, BC Parks Rangers completed the installation of new directional signage along sections of the HSCT—an important step toward improving navigation and public safety.
Unfortunately, we've recently learned that a newly installed telespar post at the Mount Harvey backside trail/HSCT junction has been pulled out of the ground.
We're deeply disappointed.
Trail signs and markers are not decorative—they are critical pieces of safety infrastructure. They help hikers make informed decisions, stay on route, and reduce the likelihood of becoming lost or requiring Search and Rescue.
We kindly ask everyone to respect this infrastructure so it can continue to serve the thousands of people who use these trails each year.
If you notice damaged, missing, or vandalized signs or trail markers, please let us know. Reporting issues quickly allows us to work with BC Parks to repair or replace them before they contribute to a preventable incident.
